For the December edition of "Co-create LAB" I have invited Milan Gidon Schnabel who is sharing how he got involved in the Zurich Job Alliance venture and what's next on the team's agenda.
My journey to and with the Zurich Job Alliance
It has been a year now that I moved to beautiful Zurich after spending the last 10 years working for luxury ski resorts in the alps.
After settling in, I found my dream job at La Réserve Eden au Lac as a Senior Revenue Manager.
A fresh product at an awesome location with great working conditions and a small but friendly and motivated team. As good as it gets.
Until the virus came.
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 crisis hit hard and I was laid off in March 2020.
I could not stay home and do anything, so I got involved in a volunteer group to shop for the elderly and vulnerable.
Also, I started my own business as a CV and job interview coach.
It was in August 2020 when I came across a post about a non-profit gathering for highly qualified English-speaking unemployed.
First, it sounded like a scam to me, I was aloof.
Today, we are still joking with the Co-founder, Inge, because I asked her boldly if it was a toaster sale before committing to the meeting.
It did not last long and I became engaged as a co-organizer of the Zurich Job Alliance.
Our team: Inge Tyler, Theofilos Sidiropoulos, and myself, Milan.
The Zurich Job Alliance is a non-profit association with the goal of supporting people in their job searching process by offering weekly topic-based events.
Every week we discuss a job search-related subject as CV, cover letter, job interview questions, new forms of application tools, networking, social media, and personal branding
or for example, special challenges that you may face specifically on the Swiss job market.
The sessions are interactive and lively.
We respect the measures of the BAG at all times.
We meet every Thursday at 14:00 in the lobby of the Courtyard Marriott in Zurich, Oerlikon. Prior registration beforehand on MeetUp is mandatory
but participation is free.
Since August we have set up a website and professional social media profiles, we are sending weekly newsletters and already held a very successful webinar with
over 60 subscriptions. We always have new projects in the pipeline for example a webinar series coming up in January 2021.
Soon we will be also featured in the media on nau.ch and we are hoping to reach out and thus welcome and enable more and more members
and keep on growing organically.
These days the job market is tougher than ever in many branches and you have to walk an extra-long mile to find the job that you love.
